On Friday, the No. 22 Denver gymnastics team placed second, recording 193.350 points, against No. 5 University of Alabama, which posted a season-high 197.025.

Senior All-American Jessica López, ranked No. 2 in the nation, posted her second consecutive 39.500, placing first in the all-around competition.

Junior Kelley Hennigan also competed in the all-around, taking third place with a 38.975, her career best.

López led the way for the Pioneers on each event, tying for first place on the bars and floor exercise.

López posted a season high 9.925 on the uneven bars and a 9.900 on the floor. Overall, López took third on the vault with a 9.850 and tied for No. 5 on the beam with a score of 9.825.

Hennigan tied her season-high scores on the beam with a 9.700 and the floor with a 9.750.

Senior Liz Meals tied her personal best with a 9.775 on the vault and sophomore Amanda Johanson tied her career-high on the vault with a 9.725. Sophomore Annamari Maaranen also tied her season best on bars, with a score of 9.775.

The Pioneers will return home to take on No. 8 Oklahoma on Saturday, in the annual Burnsley Invitational/Link to Pink Meet wearing pink leotards and selling pink T-shirts to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Fans will be able to donate via pledge cards and all donations will be going to the Denver Komen Foundation. The meet will begin at 6 p.m in Magness Arena.
