DU’s Student Media Board (SMB) is looking for applicants interested in helping the DU community with media related decisions for next year.
The SMB acts as a board of directors for DU media and is in charge of all media at DU, including the Clarion, KVDU, Spitvalve and Foothills Literary Magazine.
SMB is responsible for allocating a $50,000 budget to be used for various media-related activities.
“The function of our student media basically comes down to how the board is managed,” chairperson Paul Schutz said.
Along with financial matters and budget management, SMB’s goals are to bring all outlets of DU media together and help fund various opportunities for students to learn more about media and the ethical responsibilities that go along with it.
SMB also acts as public relations for all of DU’s media, externally and internally, to the university and AUSA Senate.
This includes acting as a liaison between DU students, media and senate.
Four positions will open at the end of this school year. Any undergraduate student can apply.
Meetings are held every Monday night, but SMB conducts most of its business through e-mail.
“We need people who are interested in the media, creative, and energetic to make our publications the best they can be,” Schutz said.
The application process includes paperwork, an interview and review process.
If you are interested in becoming a member contact Schutz at pschutz2@du.edu.
Foothills Literary Magazine is also now accepting submissions for the next issue.
Foothills is a free student art and literature magazine published by the SMB.
The magazine contains poems, short stories, essays, photography and artwork.
Currently, there is a competition being held to find artwork for the front and back cover.
Foothills is published in the spring quarter.
Pick up a copy at the May Days events, on the bridge and in front of Sturm Hall.
Writers can submit pieces to Foothills by e-mailing FoothillsSubmissions2009@gmail.com.
Foothills asks that writers and artists submit no more than three pieces per issue.
“Go to our fan page on Facebook to find submissions guidelines and see who else is submitting,” said Whitney Van Cleave, a board member.
“It’s a great opportunity to showcase your work whether it is visual or textual.”
