The Foot., a DU student band, has been together for about six months and features members Phil Barrett, Jeff McCollister, Noah Shomberg and Brandon Koch.
Barrett, an international studies and spanish major, is The Foot.’s emcee. He also sings and plays lead guitar.
McCollister, a classical voice major, sings and plays the bass guitar and synths.
Koch, majoring in audio production, also sings and plays the guitar, and Shomberg, a real estate and construction management major, is the drummer.
Although the band has only been an official band for a matter of months, Shomberg and McCollister have been singing together for 16 years, and the band members have known each other most of their time at DU.
All band members are seniors and are excited about the beginning of their musical career.
The Foot. started playing at the Battle of the Bands, which was held in March at Sidelines Pub.
The Foot. was one of two lucky winners, and was selected to play at May Days at DU. After this event, The Foot. spent the summer performing at local Denver venues.
Jeff McCollister describes the band by saying, “Instead of sticking to the more traditional genres, we’re starting our own genre called awesome.”
The Foot. describe the sound of their music as a mix between progressive rock, funk and soul. This variety was clear during Boone Stock, where The Foot. played a wide range of songs, from Christian rock to what concert goers described as “jazzy rap.”
The Foot., named after “The Foot Clan” from The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, has recorded their first CD, which is expected to be released in the next month.
One thing is for certain: if The Foot. has a bright future in music.
Their next performance is set for Nov 1 at Herman’s Hideaway, located at 1578 Broadway. They encourage DU students to come and show their support.
