AUSA Senate passed a bill Tuesday that gave the Academic Affairs Committee $800 for the payment of 10 massage therapists to provide their services at the end of the quarter R & R night.
R & R night was designed three years ago, promoting the ideas of reading, reviewing, refueling, rejuvenating, relaxing and resting before finals began.
R & R night provides a welcoming atmosphere for all studying types and promotes the idea of being refreshed.
R & R night “is a way to create some community and support around finals time,” said Karen Bensen, director of Partners in Learning.”Students can see that staff and faculty are supporting them.”
The night includes board games, crafts, study areas, mocktails and music in the pub as well as informational tables. The stress-free environment “takes you back to when you were six,” said Bensen.
A new addition to R & R night is a yoga class that will be offered.
Also, professors can reserve classrooms to hold review sessions in. Study areas include quiet private and group spaces as well as louder more interactive space.
The most popular service offered during R & R is the chair massage. There will massage therapists available for the entire evening for students who want a break from studying.
Organizations such as: Catan Game Board Club, The Driscoll Student Center, DUPB, Greek Life, Housing and Residential Education, Interfaith Alliance, Partners in Learning, DU Drink Safe Campaign, Sexual Assault Response and Prevention, AUSA Academic Affairs Committee, Health Promotions and The Student Life Division are a part of hosting the night.
R & R night will occur on Friday, Nov. 16, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Driscoll Student Center and Sidelines Pub.
