When the Colorado Rockies went in the World Series for the first time in franchise history, other local professional sports teams have had to adjust their schedules in order to avoid an overlap.

The Denver Broncos bumped their Monday night football start time up long before the possibility of a game five existed.

“The NFL and MLB coordinated together, and the NFL changed the time of our Monday night game to 6:05, instead of 6:40,” said Jim Saccomano, vice president of public relations for the Broncos in an e-mail interview.

For the second time this season, the Colorado Avalanche have changed their weekend start time as well, moving the game forward five hours from 6 p.m. to 1 p.m. According to Damien Zier, director of communications for the Colorado Avalanche, this was purely an NHL decision.

“We changed [the game time] with the NHL,” Zier said in an e-mail interview. “It’s not a difficult process…we get the approval from the league and that’s how it’s done.”

According to Zier, the Avalanche do not have a postseason conflict plan in place.

For the Denver Broncos, it was a matter of magnitude. “Generally, when we and the other teams have had a conflict, it has not involved a postseason event and crowds/audiences of this type,” Saccomano said.
