In the spring of 2006, Pi Lambda Chi Latina Sorority had its first line of DU women to become part of its sisterhood. The women at DU instantly became involved in establishing their place alongside the Greek organizations on campus.

Diversity at DU has been an ongoing discussion. So what are women at DU doing to keep the flow of change positive and supportive for female students of color, any color…. that are here? Well they are not sitting by just complaining. Pi Lambda Chi is a nontraditional sorority, whose mission is “to create a strong sisterhood and educational support network for women on college campuses. Pi Lambda Chi seeks to preserve Latina/o culture and history, as well as promote education and community service in the Latina/o communities surrounding their campuses”. These women are involved in many volunteer opportunities on and off campus. For example, the Philanthropic Halloween Carnival to be held at Driscoll Oct. 19.

Dozens of women at DU have joined. They are from many different cultural backgrounds and age groups. These women are both undergraduates and graduate students, tradtional and nontraditional students. They are proactive in their own engagement and experience for themselves and others.

They are holding an interest meeting on Oct. 9. Please contact Julieta Quinones, dean of pledges, at jquinon2@du.edu.

Sincerely,Elina Martinez, The Women’s College
