Long live Boone
Dear Clarion,Thanks for your article about Boone. The connection between red-tailed hawks and pioneers is tenuous at best. I’m sure pioneers saw red-tailed hawks. Fortunately, these magnificent birds are still around. I’ve even see one in Washington Park about a mile from campus. It didn’t look much like the Madison-Avenue-style logo that’s supposed to strike fear into the hearts of DU’s athletic opponents.I guess I must lack sophistication. To me, Ruckus looks more like a rooster than a raptor. I was sorry to see Boone go. I’d like him to return.

Support our troops
Dear Clarion,I am writing to commend the College Republicans for their “support the troops” week. As a student, I believe that we must support our troops and our president if we want to maintain a strong presence abroad. As a proud Bush Republican, I feel that too often this war has been slandered by defeatists on the left (and by several campus organizations). The war in Iraq was not only the right thing to do, it was the patriotic thing to do. We have an obligation to spread freedom and democracy, even if we must do it down the barrel of a gun. We have an obligation, furthermore, to secure vital resources in the region. I commend the College Republicans for supporting the troops, but call all true republicans and Americans to do the patriotic thing, take the next step, and support the war, our president, and any future military action which may (and probably will) be necessary against Iran.
