Magness Arena rocked last week while hosting the Taste of Chaos tour.
Bands including Evaline, Aiden, Saosin, Chiodos, Senses Fail, 30 Seconds to Mars and The Used all performed.
The variety of bands and quick set changes made the Taste of Chaos tour exiting and worth seeing.
Aiden played early on in the show and brought the audience to its feet thanks to the vocals of lead singer Will Francis.
His mischievous attitude and crowd interaction made Aiden’s performance memorable.
Next, Chiodos played followed by Saosin, performing songs such as “Seven Years” and “Bury Your Head.”
After Saosin, the better known acts took the stage.
“Senses Fail” came next after a fairly quick set change.
The stage revolved after every act, which made the transitions faster and eliminated that dreaded long wait that usually occurs between acts.
The songs Senses Fail played were mostly from the band’s new album Still Searching, released just a few months ago.
Highlight songs from this CD included “Calling All Cars” and “The Priest and the Matador.”
During the show, lead singer Buddy Nielsen asked the audience if he was indeed at the University of Denver and then jokingly admitted to sneaking into the women’s basketball locker room earlier that day.
30 Seconds to Mars followed with an entirely different sound and theatrics.
While the other bands performed with few, if any, props or special effects, 30 Seconds to Mars created an Asian-inspired backdrop that included red lanterns and a folding screen.
The suspense was heightened by a delay in the band’s entrance.
Instead, dramatic piped-in music filled the empty stage. As fans screamed in anticipation, the band entered from the side of the arena.
Band members carried red flags and gave fans an opportunity to reach out and touch the musicians as they made their way to the stage.
To add to the theatrics, the band members were dressed as ninjas.
The set included such hits as “The Kill,” “A Beautiful Lie” and “From Yesterday.”
The music video for “From Yesterday” definitely inspired the design of the stage. The stage almost appeared to be the extended version of the music video.
The over-the-top antics continued throughout the set as lead singer Jared Leto made an effort to connect with the crowd.
This included leaving the main stage and performing in the seated areas.
Not wanting to disappoint the fans on the floor far back from the stage, he made sure to set up a mini stage for himself in the back and performed for the crowd.
His attempt to connect with the audience may have gone overboard when he grabbed a fortune cookie and told the crowd it was his body and they should eat it in order to become part of the band’s “family.”
Despite this, the theatrical aspect was refreshing and interesting.
Finally it was time for the headline act, The Used.
A black screen dropped over the front of the stage as the band began to play.
The screen made the musicians’ shadows appear larger than life, creating a dramatic opening to the act.
The Used released their new live CD in February but had yet to release any new material since 2004, so it was anticipated that the band would debut new songs.
This proved to be true as The Used played three new songs from their album that will be released in May.
They also played older songs that included such crowd favorites as “All That I Got” and “Taste of Ink.”
During the set, Francis from Aiden reappeared on stage and playfully presented lead singer Bert McCracken with a flower.
After accepting the gift, The Used performed one of the last songs with Francis.
Magness Arena was a sight to see as all seven bands entertained crowds throughout the night.
The concert is an exciting memory and was definitely worth seeing.
Each band has the ability to entertain audiences both in the studio and on the stage.
