Dear Students,
This is the last Clarion issue for winter quarter. It is also the last issue for which we (Kathryn and Jessica) will serve as editors in chief. We have immensely enjoyed being the editors and hope you have enjoyed reading the paper. Don’t lie. We know you have.
And now, we won’t lie: running a university student newspaper definitely presents its own unique challenges and there certainly have been many. But looking back on the past two years, they have been well-worth any presented challenges. They’ve simply been the best.
Although our lives will (thank God) calm down a bit, it’s a slightly disappointing realization. We’ll miss the loud sounds of the newsroom and chaos and stress that the Clarion has blessed us with. We’ll even miss ridicule, which we’ve gotten our fair share of. Nothing tells us more that you’re reading than angry letters to the editors or criticism of our personal, political, religious and moral convictions that we packaged neatly into 500 word editorials.
The two of us meshed well, and we’re lucky for it. The Clarion, like any other publication or journalist, is always subject to accusations of bias. Although we’d never tell you until now, readers can rest assured that the Clarion, for the last two years anyways, was run by a Conservative Catholic and Liberal Jew.
We would like to thank our staff (all of them, we promise); Ania Savage, our dedicated advisor (and by dedicated, we really mean always ready to advise and/or yell); and you, the readers. You’ve made it worth it every step of the way.
Sincerely,
Kathryn Mayer and Jessica Slosberg
