Men’s Tennis: The Pioneer men’s tennis team rebounded from their disappointing play a week ago to pound the No. 44 Red Raiders of Texas Tech 5-2 Sunday afternoon.
Leading the No. 64 Pioneers was junior Adam Almstrom, ranked No. 21 in the country indiviually. Almstrom was one of four Pioneers to win a singles match, dominating No. 12 Bojan Szumanski 6-3, 6-4. Also, he was part of the winning doubles team, being paired with Niklas Persson.
Also winning singles matches for the Pioneers were Ben Althaus, Kalle Rosen and Persson.
The Pioneers (2-1) take on Montana State University Friday at 7 p.m. at the Meadow Creek facility in Denver.
Women’s Tennis: The No. 47 Pioneers swept their weekend games in Iowa City, pounding Indiana State 6-1 and squeeking out a win against No. 58 Iowa 4-3.
No. 5 singles player Rachel Sackmaster starred for the Pioneers, winning the clinching singles match against Iowa for the win.
The Pioneers, now 4-1 on the season, head into an away meet with Oregon.
Gymnastics: The No. 12 Pioneers team continued their strong play this season by demolishing the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H.
Senior Heather Huffaker led the way by winning the all-around title with a season high 39.275.
The Pioneers are back in action Saturday, when they host No. 7 UCLA at 6 p.m. MT.
