Today and Monday KVDU, DU’s student radio station hosted a open house to celebrate its re-launch and newly remodeled studio.
The idea was a “collective idea” by the KVDU staff, according to Gavin Williams, station manager and Jon Aisner, events director.
“We wanted to show off our re-modeled studio and equipment upgrades,” said Williams. And to attract attention to the radio station in general, giving people a chance to ask questions and express interest in becoming involved with KVDU.
“We are starting anew and are looking for new DJs and really anyone who is interested in volutneering or lending a hand,” said Aisner. “We wanted to give people more information about KVDU.”
“Shows are on a first come first serve basis. We will have as many shows as people are interested,” said Williams. “If we had shows all week that would be awesome.”
In addition to answering questions and providing snacks the radio station also hosted a “Guitar Hero” contest.
“Guitar Hero” is a video game program that has the player simulating guitar playing by having he or she push buttons in sync with game. The winner of the contest will be determined by whomever makes it to the highest level.
The winner will receive a “gold-plated,” KVDU personalized guitar hero and a copy of the videogame.
“It is like “dance, dance, revolution” for your fingers,” said Aisner.
The first day of the open house had 30 people stop by and 20 people drop-off DJ applications.
KVDU, as a student internet station has been around for six years. Before that DU has KCFR for decades which had an AM radio frequency. It was sold to National Public Radio in the late eighties.
Students can listen to KVDU by logging on to www.kvdu.org. Scheduled play lists have started with their temporary Web site. The real Web site will be up and running next week and will have a complete schedule of shows.
