Action, romance, and even some rather controversial scenes were all a part of the recent film, “V for Vendetta.”

With help from the Matrix’s Wacowski brothers, director Joel Silver creates an epic well worth media attention.

The movie is based on the 1982 graphic novel and features a very interesting story line.

Taking place in a futuristic totalitarian Britain, the story follows a young reporter named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is saved by a mysterious masked man.

The man (Hugo Weaving) calls himself V while wearing a mask of the 1605 anarchist, Guy Fawkes. Much like Guy Fawkes’ attempt at destroying British Parliament in the 1605, V attempts to disrupt his totalitarian society through the murder of top officials and even a plot to destroy the Parliament building itself.

With the help of the intriguing Evey, V uses his skillful swordplay and wit to outrun the British police force and create an explosive finale for the film. At the same time, Evey discovers she is a freedom fighter and falls in love with V.

Although the action-packed film features a reputable cast and story line, it also exploits the violence present in today’s films.

The characters, for example, use violence and complete rebellion in an attempt to overthrow an oppressive government.

Audiences may not be sure whether V is more is a terrorist or futuristic messiah.

In addition, the heads of the British government seem strikingly similar to modern governments’ and their attempts to monitoring society. Regardless, the characters of the movie are detailed and very believable. Portman’s character Evey and Weaving’s V create a naturally emotional balance found in many reputable dramas despite the film’s violence.

Each character also plays a significant role in the story line and gives great insight into the film’s graphic scenes. Weaving, for instance, never removes his mask, which still creates a sense of mystery in the hidden character V.

Furthermore, audiences may be shocked, yet entertained by the bold attitude of certain scenes.

Scenes of V’s swordplay include considerable amounts of violence, yet follow with scenes of comedy.

Although the action will tend to entertain large crowds, the scenes of comedy may shock audiences by including extremely conflicting film tones. Another scene includes references to homosexuality and the government’s disapproval of such.

The scenes provide an entertaining change of pace while raising controversy among viewers.

Although the film is controversial, it is worth seeing in theaters.

It includes a simple story line without irrelevant scenes or bad dialogue.

Every scene plays an important role in the story line and includes the amount of action and drama to keep the story moving.

“V for Vendetta” is a recommended movie and excellent glimpse at our society.

The film’s controversial issues provide both a sense of initial shock and new form of entertainment for today’s audiences.
