The India Update

“The India Update” panel will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the Sturm College of Law, room 165.

The International Law Society, Research India and the Indian Student Network invite students to engage DU and Metro State faculty to discuss issues related to US-India relations.

The title of tonight’s “India Update” is “Securing Freedom, Securing Markets: The Transforming Nature of US-India Relations in the 21st Century”

The panel will include GSIS Dean Tom Farer and Professors Ved Nanda and Kishore Kulkarni.

Admission is free and all level students may participate. Chai and Indian appetizers will be served. RSVP preferred, but not required.

Israel Election

The Institute for the Study of Israel in the Middle East will hold Election Reflection 2006 tomorrow at noon and will include a free luncheon and interactive workshop.

This interactive program will discuss the upcoming Israeli elections. Presented by Oded Peles, a specialist in Jewish education coming directly from Israel, this program will give a deeper understanding of the system, parties, players and issues.

Anyone captivated, confused or curious about the Israeli election scheduled for March 28 and what it means for Israel, the Middle East, the United States and the world, may come for a deeper understanding.

Greenpeace speaker

On Thursday 8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m., Dr. Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace, will provide the keynote address of the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute’s Annual Conference. The the event is free and open to the public. It will be in the Forum of the Sturm College of Law.

Hot Topic Thursdays

Hot Topic Thursdays will have a lunchtime conversation with faculty on today’s current issues.

The final topic will be discussed this Thursday with Susan Sterett, chair of Political Science, who will discuss “Civil Liberties in Wartime.”

Students are encouraged to bring a lunch and discuss the current events that are going on around us.

It is an opportunity to share your opinion with peers and DU faculty.

Denver Bach Society

The Denver Bach Society recital will be held Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Newman Center for the Performing Arts in the Hamilton Recital Hall.

Opening night of the Denver Bach Society Bach Fest 2006 features the University of Denver Concert Choir, Catherine Sailer conductor and organist Horst Buchholz. Tickets are $16.

Ballroom dancing

Want to learn ballroom dancing? You can be an advanced dancer or a total beginner.

Come check out DU’s Ballroom Dance Club every Sunday 3-5 p.m. in Studio A&B, the 3rd Level of Ritchie Center.

The instructor of class has over 25 years of experience in all types of competitive and social dance: tango, samba, waltz, salsa, rumba and more.

Attend classes for the next three weeks at no cost. If you like it, enroll for only $40 for the remainder of the year.

Wear comfortable clothes and dancing shoes if you have a pair. If not wear anything that you have but try to stay away from sneakers/running shoes because they have traction.

Sexual assault awareness

“Sexual Assault Awareness Week” (SAAW) will occur across DU from April 3-7.

This will be a week of activities and programs dedicated to ending sexual violence on our campus and in our society.

“Take Back the Night” will also be held as part of SAAW in conjunction with the Undergraduate Women’s Council in the evening on Wednesday April 5 on the Campus Green (Times TBD).

A speaker will be present on the Campus Green followed by a march around campus to “take back the night” and a candle lighting ceremony in support and memory of the thousands of survivors of sexual assault.

May 17-18, DU will once again host the PeaceJam Youth Conference.
