If you’re looking for a place to take a date, Seven 30 South Grill, located on S. University Boulevard, is a classy, yet casual restaurant that showcases American-style cuisine with a hint of traditional Italian flavor.

The restaurant’s dCB)cor is modern with a brick interior and hardwood flooring. The dim lights provide a comfortable and romantic atmosphere for you and your date to enjoy.

And don’t worry about being too close to the couple next to you because the seating is adequately spaced throughout the restaurant.

As a plus, the ambient noise of the restaurant is not overpowering, which means you’ll be able to hear your date and won’t just have to nod your head “yes” or “no.”

Initially, when you walk into the restaurant you will feel welcomed by a smiling hostess who will seat you at your table. The wait staff also provides excellent services. Not once will they overwhelm you by coming over to the table too many times.

The appearance of the restaurant is ascetically pleasing. The food is as well, yet the taste reads a different story.

The restaurant’s menu features a variety of appetizers, feature salads and soups, entrees, specials and desserts. Most of the dishes are taken from traditional Italian recipes. Yet, many of the entrees and appetizers were too bland for my palate.

As an appetizer, the crispy calamari strips were tasty, but nothing to rave about. Unlike the typical ring-cut pieces, the calamari was served as thick, strips that reminded me of imitation crab meat battered in bread crumbs. The price was $8.95, and unfortunately, I was disappointed by the dish.

On the other hand, their featured iceberg wedge salad for $5.25 was full of flavor. It was served with Maytag bleu cheese, fresh tomatoes and tangy Caesar dressing.

The iceberg lettuce, though not the most nutritional food, was crunchy and fresh in every bite, and was complimented by the bleu cheese, which provided a thick enjoyable texture.

Some of the entrCB)es the restaurant offered were the chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich, the classic fish and chips and the pork medallions.

The chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich was made with a grilled piece of chicken breast, baked brie, ham, fresh spinach, pesto mayo and served on a toasted ciabatta roll.

All of the ingredients blended well together, and the baked brie proved the extra appeal. All in all, this dish was both aesthetically pleasing and tasty for the price of $8.95.

The fish and chips came with three pieces of beer-battered filets of cod served with a side of cole slaw and french fries for $9.95. It was flakey, but not coated in too much batter, which meant that the fish still held its flavor.

Though the description and appearance of the pork medallions were appealing with its fresh Granny Smith apple brandy sauce, the taste was missing, and the price was too high at $14.95.

The meat was overdone, and the side vegetables were not thoroughly cooked. Very disappointing. To compensate, the restaurant’s classic tiramisu was excellent with its creamy filling and sweet sugar coated lady fingers. It was served with rum soaked lady fingers with whipped Italian cream cheese center for only $5.50.

Overall, the atmosphere and layout of the restaurant is ideal for an enjoyable evening. The food on the other hand was not that amazing, though some of the dishes were delicious. In total you will spend $20-$25 per person.
