The University of Denver Programs Board is sponsoring its first iMovie Festival Nov. 10 in Davis Auditorium in Sturm Hall that will showcase student-made movies in a Hollywood inspired premiere where guests will be asked to “dress to impress.”Three-to-five-minute student-made films will be screened at the festival.Devon Vandervort, Apple Corp.’s campus representative, proposed the festival last spring. Since then, DUPB, with the help of Apple, has been working to organize this event. “iMovie fests have become annual traditions on numerous campuses and give students the opportunity to get creative and have fun with their friends or floor-mates while seeing what they can accomplish with the tools that Apple has to offer in iMovie,” said Vandervort. At last count, 29 teams had signed up which totals 104 students involved in the competition, according to Vandervort. The teams will be aided by a number of iMac G5s that are spread across campus. Canon digital video cameras were also lent to any contestants who needed one. All equipment is provided by Apple . The teams had 11 days to create their films, which had to be entered by yesterday’s deadline to be considered for the premier.Contestants will receive invitations to give out to their friends for the premier. The team with the most fans present will be awarded a bonus prize. Each member of the winning team will receive an iPod Nano. Other prizes will be given out to runner-up teams such as iPod Shuffles, iTunes gift certificates and more. Also all participants will be entered into a raffle to win tickets to see Gwen Stefani and the Black Eyed Peas in concert. This event is being sponsored by Apple and the DU Bookstore in addition to being funded by the event fund that DUPB administers. Apple and the DU Bookstore are also donating prizes for the event, said Vandervort. The DU Bookstore has also decided to offer students a special discount through the event.”If you come into the DU Bookstore Thursday, Nov. 10, or Friday, Nov. 11, and give the code ‘imoviefest’ when placing your order, you can receive $200 off any PowerBook G4 or $100 off any iBook G4 when purchased with AppleCare Protection Plan. This offer is good until 4 p.m. Nov. 11 and is only for DU students, faculty and staff,” said Vandervort. The premier will start at 7 p.m Nov. 10. The event will be catered, “with a lot of fun surprises,” said Vandervort.
