And so it begins right before it ends for the summer.
After a fairly mellow start of the quarter on board this page, the sparks have flown.
Submissions to the Clarion over the past two weeks have been titled things like “McGahey’s Crazy”, “The Editorial Page Blues”, and “ANWR is Not the Answer for Everything.”
I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself and the anger of some of the writers, but also had to tip my cap to their dedication to their beliefs, and to their knowledge of the subjects.
Finally, after a couple of controversial pieces written strictly for the incitement and motivation of writings to this publication, they come out of the woodwork.
There is this preconceived notion, especially that I received from James Meissen in his letter to the editor in the May 10 Clarion, that the vast right wing conspiracy is in action and abuses is positions of power both in government and now evidently in print journalism.
This idea that conservatives are either Bible thumping religious freaks, money obsessed members of those oh so evil corporations, or rednecks is absurd.
Granted a majority of the conservative Republican base comes from these groups, but the notion that political segregation is promoted only by conservatives is incongruous.
Liberals base most of their claims on the “One World” theory and “diversity”.
They believe in accepting and being one with all points of view, except those that disagree with their point of view.
This, like the claim that conservatives, mainly myself according to Mr. Meissen, are unbalanced journalists that discriminate opposite points of view, is a generalization. Not every liberal conducts themselves in that way, nor does every conservative
As I sit here and write this, Proud to be an American plays in the background on the radio.
The point is despite political views and feelings on certain issues, we are still just American people.
We should have taken George Washington’s advice and avoided political parties.
But since we have ourselves entangled daily on the political battlefields of the news, talk radio, and even this page, we should take God’s advice and learn to love our enemies.
I may be what most liberals call a Bible thumping, money obsessed, Capitalist redneck, but most of the people who call me that look to me to be pinecone eating pinko Communists.
People have their predispositions on members of the other side, and that is bound to exist.
We as humans need to improve ourselves to be better than that and to engage in educated discussion about our disagreements like our Founding Fathers,
I am proud of those who have submitted to this publication in our version of this discourse.
That is the design of McGahey’s Navy and the editorials page, and I encourage every single one of you to join in with those who have already contributed to this page of “unbalanced journalism” according to Mr. Meissen.
To his credit, he has brought out more people especially from the left to write for this page and I suppose, yes, balance it out.
Thank you for participating in our First Amendment and remember the next discussion you have with someone who opposes your political views, in the bigger picture we are all One Nation Under God.
Good summer to you. That is all recruits. Until September, dismissed.
