Well, nobody had a supreme problem with faith. It actually is “One nation under God.”
In case you missed it, last week I wrote about faith in God and how it is freedom of religion and not freedom from religion. I wrote about how faith had an impact on me personally as well.
I thought my mailbox would be chuck- full of editorials clawing at me for my faith in God, but it wasn’t. Faith is very abundant among Americans as well as students just like you here at Denver.
Could it have been my timing? If somebody had something to say, could guilt have fallen upon them because of the death of Pope John Paul II? I hope that is not the case. May he rest with our Lord in Heaven.
Faith in God keeps most of people going every single day. Just like a newly aired commercial, for what I don’t know, but “numbers like these are hard to ignore.”
To the next order of business, you know what is hard to ignore? The shellacking of Colorado College; again.
Last Thursday, the Pioneers put up six power play goals to conquer the Tigers for the fourth time this season. How many times do we have to beat these guys anyhow?
The rivalry that began in 1949 has been dominated by Denver as the Pioneers lead the all-time series 148-99. Still CC fans are talking all kinds of smack.
Let’s dispel this horse puckey (no pun intended) and see who the class act is. Well that’s a no-brainer but I’ll tell you anyhow.
Tigers coach Scott Owens has never won a playoff game against Denver. Thursday marked the first time the two teams met in NCAA action.
Brett Sterling and Marty Sertich, Colorado College’s top two leading scorers and candidates for the Hobey Baker award (college hockey’s MVP), have been almost invisible versus Denver all year.
We may not play the prettiest games in the world, but we find a way to win games, and more importantly, win the big games.
That’s something Owens and his kittens, or Tiger cubs, haven’t yet figured out and that’s why they went back to Colorado Springs early, once again.
While this may seem a bit brutal, it’s the truth. Tiger fans blame it on the ice sheet. The World Arena in Colorado Springs is the home ice for CC and is one of the largest in the country.
The claim is that DU cannot play on big ice. That could be a fair statement. The only two games Denver lost to CC this year were at the World Arena on the Olympic-size ice.
However, the regional last year was at the World Arena where Denver beat Miami (of Ohio) and North Dakota.
I almost forgot to mention that CC wasn’t even invited to the NCAA tournament last year. I’ll get you guys a tissue in a second.
Regional play for the Pioneers this year was held at the University of Massachusetts where the ice is, brace yourself, Olympic size.
Denver won its first championship since 1969 in 2004. Colorado College, not to anyone’s surprise, has not won the big one since 1957.
Even without Owens they hold a not so proud tradition of not being able to win the big games.
To the Tiger’s credit, they did knock off Michigan in a thrilling comeback. I’ve always said that nobody likes Michigan except Michigan fans especially me being a Domer.
Denver is cruising, looking more and more solid all the time, and although we may not play the prettiest or do everything right, we find a way to win.
We find a way to win the big games with fearless leader George Gwozdecky at the helm.
We Denver fans will keep our mouths shut. We’ll be humble, and just let our team, their play, and the stats speak for us.
So go on Tigers fans, keep talkin’, because your team just keeps walkin’ away from the big one.
That is all recruits. Dismissed.
