There is no second chance at a first impression. So, let’s start off on the right foot.

Hello there, my name is Conor McGahey and I’ll be your new editorials editor for the Clarion.

Throughout our journey, please keep all hands, arms, legs, purses, children, tray tables, llamas inside the vehicle at all times and please take all Colorado College fans by the hand (they need all the help they can get).

Jokes aside, I am attempting to fill the shoes of Dan Martin, who brought you editorials for quite some time. He is now in news.

Opinions, especially in politics, are rampant in a lot of people, and when the right buttons are pushed, everyone’s opinion comes out.

Now, not everyone appreciates your opinion, or mine for that matter.

I will tell you, however, that this newspaper does.

While politics get bashed left and right (no pun intended) and the conservative/liberal battle rages, you may vent here.

The rest of the Clarion staff, bless all their hearts, are concerned with objectivity.

The beauty of my job, and your comments, is that we throw objectivity out the window and go back to the old days of newspapers.

If I may make a suggestion, people tend to listen more if solid facts back your arguments up and the basis of your argument isn’t fiction.

Dan Rather taught us that.

Maybe he should just stick to editorials from now on. That is if anyone will hire him.

Back on topic, to do this page, I am up for the challenge especially because I wouldn’t want to get assigned to news, which isn’t as much fun.

Welcome to spring quarter.

Let’s all plow through, do well and take the brand-spankin’ new Clarion editorials page with us. Don’t be afraid to vent and be everything but objective.

That’s why I’m here. That is all, recruits. Dismissed.
