DU’s Club Ski Team has reached regionals competition for the sixth consecutive season, after the men’s team placed second in their division and the women’s team placed fifth.

The club’s top five men and top five women will attend the competition in Idaho next week.

Seven teams from around the region, including University of Colorado, Colorado State University and the Air Force Academy will be competing in the tournament.

The DU skiers are all packed and ready to go. The only hurdle now is getting there.

It will cost the team roughly $2,000 to travel to Idaho.

By now, the team have exhausted all of its funds, which were used to pay for extensive training and races. Dani Dubois, club president, has asked AUSA Senate to help get the skiers to Idaho.

AUSA senators congratulated the team and said they would like to help make the trip possible.

Dubois was asked by Senator Molly Brown to fill out a Board of Contingency application by Sunday.

An emergency meeting has been scheduled for Sunday to discuss the application, which allocates emergency funds to groups in need.

Dubois wanted to emphasize that in order to go the funds are needed by today. This is due to the fact that the team must drive 15 hours to McCall, Idaho.

Senators thanked her for coming and assured her that they would consider her request as long as the application is turned in promptly.

Dubois said earlier funding has gone to weekly training trips to Keystone. The money was spent on lift tickets, entries and lodging.

In order to fund for the expensive trips the team raises funds throughout the school year.

Their most popular activity is the wax-and-tune sessions that are held on campus for students.

Team members also host a USCSA race in Winter Park each year.

Dubois said the regional tournament is very important to club skiing.

Since DU has a Division I ski team the club team is disqualified from competing in nationals.

This makes regionals the biggest tournament of the year for club skiing.

The club team is attempting to change the rule about competing in nationals.

“I skied in regionals my first year and had a blast.

I would love to go to nationals some day but I doubt I will get to go before I graduate,” said Erin Bryant, junior ski club member.

The tournament will be tomorrow through Saturday.

The entry cost per person is $175. Hotel, transportation and food will eat up the rest of the funds for the trip.
