Wendy’s has arrived at the University of Denver.

Wendy’s launched its new eatery on South University Boulevard and Harvard Avenue on, Dec. 31.

“We identified an opportunity in the DU area, realizing that we didn’t have a presence,” said Candis Goins Wendy’s marketing director. “We wanted to better serve our DU students and area community.”

The location is also only two blocks from fraternity and sorority row.The pick-up window , will remain open until 2 a.m, according to Goins.

To celebrate opening day, an employee dressed as the trademark character Wendy helped serve food and entertain customers, according to store manager Manuel Collins.

“She danced around inside and outside of the store, and served food from the back window,” said Collins. “She will be coming back from time to time.”

Collins also noted that the restaurant has been doing well, especially while school is in session.

Other restaurants in the area including other fast food establishments don’t feel threatened by Wendy’s and believe that it will be positive for the neighborhood.

“It’s a great idea to put that type of fast food closer to the university,” said Adam Dyer, assistant manager of Black Jack Pizza, also close to the campus. “there are not many in the area.”

“It benefits our business, because it brings people to the neighborhood,” said Subway manager Regan Smolkovich.

Some students are excited for the newest eatery near DU and the late night snack opportunities.

“I like the dollar menu and the fact that the drive-thru is opened so late,” said senior Wendy Garritano, a student looking forward to late night meals.

However, other students are not pleased with the newest edition to the neighborhood.

“Fast food is everywhere,” said sophomore Ted Quinn. “It’s disgusting. I knew it would eventually find its way to the campus.”

There are approximately 70 Wendy’s restaurants in the Denver Metro Area.
