The AUSA Senate made plans to help tsunami victims at its meeting last week.
Max Goldberg, AUSA president, said that he will “help organize the different groups on campus working on relief” and strives for communication within the groups. Many student groups on campus have been working individually for relief, so the Senate hopes to join their efforts.
Jaime Conry, chair of the finance committee, said that applications for joining the SOC committee are due March 4 and finance applications are due April 1. Conry also announced that Daniels College of Business has a new dean who will be on campus sometime in the next month to meet with students.
Joey Hamm, first-year senator, is organizing the 5K charity Polar Bear Run Jan. 23. The run will benefit the Rainbow House, a local daycare for children with special needs including HIV/AIDS. The entry fee is $15 for students and participants will receive a long-sleeved shirt.
Nick Sauer, senior senator, said that he is “really excited about the mentoring program with seniors to get them connected with alumni in their field.” Sauer recently met with the head of alumni to talk about the program.
In other business, Conry announced that there is a senior senator position open, that was previously held by Shantel Jones, and encouraged other senators to tell anyone interested to apply. Applications are due Jan. 18.
The meeting also welcomed back Chris O’Brien, who was marketing director last year and was voted in again this year. His job will consist of updating the Senate Web site and posting office hours.
Yusuf Malik, AUSA vice president, said that the Web site will be featuring pictures of senators to gain “awareness on campus to see who we are.” The pictures will serve as a link to find out information on each senator.
DUPB president Meghan Knight announced at the meeting that there are two positions open, publicity co-chair and co-director of the new committee, Crimson and Gold.
Knight also discussed the Winter Carnival and is asking students to register.
Winter Carnival will be at Winter Park Jan. 28-30 and will cost $100.
