DUTV will be throwing a release party on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Centennial Halls Lounge to celebrate and broadcast their first episode.

The hour-long program produced by DU students will consist of mostly news segments and a sports highlights show, says Shannon Ozaki, founder of the newly-funded organization.

“For the future, I want DUTV to be an outlet for students to gain real-world experience in video production,” said Ozaki. “It should be fun and something they really want to be a part of.”

The program, which was funded last year by the Student Media Board, will run on Channel 8 in the residence halls, as well as Sidelines Pub and Driscoll Commons.

Ozaki predicts it will likely air twice a week, although exact times have not yet been determined.

DU TV does not yet have the capabilities to do live broadcasts, but has been recording the anchor spots in Sturm Hall.

Most of the video is done in the field.

The current anchors are Lara Smedley and Alden Schiller.

One segment that will be broadcasted, “Student Showcase,” will be showing student films and projects from the School of Mass Communications.

Students can also submit their work directly to DU TV for airing.

“There are a lot of different ways students can become involved,” said Ozaki. “They can do anything from reporting, to photojournalism, to editing, to starting their own show. This organization is really for any student who is interested in video production, broadcasting, or just television in general.”

In an effort to air one more show this quarter, the organization will begin production soon after this first broadcast airs.

The premiere will include free food.
