When the on-campus food options begin to run together and the idea of facing another Chipotle burrito is more than you can stomach never fear, other options are just around the corner.

Brothers-Bar-B-Que is just the right choice. This place is a college student’s dream. It has great food, huge portions and small prices. The menu is written up on a chalkboard, all laid-out and easy to read. When ordering you pick chicken, beef or ribs. Then you pick mild, medium or hot sauce. Then depending on how hungry you are you pick between a lunch or dinner special.

The lunch has one side order and a dinner has two. The dinner specials include two sides picked from a list that includes baked beans, coleslaw, fries, or potato salad. The dinner special will run you about $10.

I had a chicken dinner with medium sauces. The chicken was flavorful, but a bit dry. But the dryness was easily cured by the ample sauce provided. And in order to make sure no sauce was left over two pieces of good bread come with the meal for mopping up. I had the coleslaw and potato salad. The colesalw was the right combination of cabbage and carrots, but more importantly it was not dripping with mayo. The potato salad had enough spice to be interesting but was simple enough that it was a cooling contrast to the sauce.

The atmosphere was casual and inviting. There was lively music playing in the background. And there was a baseball game on the television. It made me want to stick around and hangout for awhile and make friends with the cashier.

The walls were plastered with license plates from all the different states. Interspersed with the licenses were a variety of stickers; most of them bearing Brothers’ logo. The casual atmosphere was advanced by the variety of people hanging around. There were the people who were waiting for their take-out orders. They were loitering around at the small tables. The people who were staying usually chose the tables by the windows. This small restaurant is not exactly around the corner, as it is located on the corner of Monaco Boulevard and Leetsdale, northeast of DU.

But once I arrived I felt right at home. And the food was definitely worth the extra mile.
