With the school year coming to an end, you realize how many useless items you actually have cluttered around your dorm room closet, your muddled desk drawers and underneath your bed.
Don’t just throw it all in the trash, because there is a much more constructive way to clean up your place.
Beginning last week and continuing through the end of the quarter, students can donate unwanted clothing, bedding, towels, shoes, hats, gloves and the like to the Denver Rescue Mission.
Boxes are located in all residence hall lobbies as well as Greek houses and the International House.
The Denver Rescue Mission is an organization best known for the Champa House, a homeless shelter.
The Denver Rescue Mission works with any Denver residents in need. They helped many Denverites during the flood a few years ago and help during times of other such natural disasters.
The old adage, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” holds some truth. All of your so-called “junk” donated will go to hungry, hurting and homeless people.
Many students agree the drive is a valuable, easy and caring way to help those in need.
“I think the clothing drive is a great idea and it’s going to a great cause. It’s always gratifying to give back to the community,” junior Alissa Veuthey said.
Junior Patrick Fults said, “I think it is great for people to give to the needy in any way they can. For some people, donating their old possessions is all they can do, but every little bit helps. I fully intend to contribute.”
Graduate student Brion Nazzaro said, “It is great that we can donate the clothes that are just cluttering our closets or will be heaped in the trash when we leave. It’s better to give the clothes to people who can really benefit from them.”
The drive is sponsored by the Department of Residence, Tower’s Leadership Team and DU TX2, the transfer student organization. All of them hope to encourage and elicit as many students as possible to donate.
