The Denver Police Department have a suspect for the attempted sexual assaults that occurred between 7 and 9 p.m. March 25.

Forty-year-old Andrew Thomas Plancarte was taken into custody April 1.

“Andrew is currently in custody and serving a 75 day sentence for an unrelated charge of disorderly conduct,” Detective Virginia Lopez said in a statement.

Denver police will continue with its investigation into the sexual assaults.

Jim Berscheidt, director of news and public affairs at DU, said Plancarte has not been charged with the assaults, and that the university is still offering the $5,000 reward that leads to the arrest and conviction of the responsible party.

Don Enloe, director of Campus Safety, said that security will remain high and officers will continue to parole campus more often, especially on sorority row.

Enloe said that the department has experienced an increase in demand of whistles provided to students at residence halls front desk and the Campus Safety office. They have ordered more whistles to meet the demand.

The department has had to cancel some of its rape defense courses, RAD, due to low enrollment, but held one class last Wednesday with two participants.

Carl Johnson, director of Greek Life and Student Programs, said the fraternity members responsible for the unrelated Gamma Phi sorority house break in that night have been referred to the Committee for Citizenship and Community Standards.

The fraternity members are from Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Beta Theta Pi. No members of Theta Chi Alpha were involved with the break in as had previously been reported.

Gamma Phi decided not press charges against the fraternity members.

Johnson said that all Greek houses were told the needed to stop, and would not be condoned.

Former Gamma Phi President Amber Kirchenschlager thanked the AUSA senators for their concern about the event at last week’s senate meeting.
