As students walk out of Sturm Hall they are quickly absorbed into the parade walking along the red brick sidewalk next to the new Driscoll Lawn.

This parade includes college students, dressed in the usual uniform of T-shirt, jeans and a baseball hat or the occasional suit.

Of course, the majority are talking on or holding the ever present cell phone.

Mixed with the students are prospective students, easily spotted by the name tag. Even more apparent is the parent in tow, clutching the informational packet. Both look apprehensive and lost.

The students are seen skirting them on they way to the lawn.

This is the pattern for students; leave class, dodge the prospectives and the construction, buy lunch in the commons and return to the lawn.

Students lounge along the edges of the lawn where the concrete bulkhead provides an excellent backrest. These students are eating and doing homework while enjoying the warm weather. Other students prefer simply to eat.

These students walk to the center of the lawn and drop their bags. Usually in small groups, the students sprawl out while eating.

Some are sitting and eating, others eat stretched out on their stomachs. Still others ignore lunch to attend to more important matter, such as a quick nap in the sun.

On the opposite walkway, close to the law school, gardeners are putting the finishing touches on the flower beds and rows of lights.

They are moving equipment around. They are sweeping the dirt from the brick pathways from when the lights were bring put in.

On the opposite side of the pathway is the large, brick Beta fraternity house. Sitting outside is a member, who is wearing a suit, he is sitting on a bench eating lunch.

Next to him is the fraternity’s mascot, a golden retriever. The guy takes part of his lunch and throws it at the eager dog, who catches it mid-air and flops back down in the sunshine.

The two-year project of making the new and improved Driscoll Law is not quite finished.

However, students and animals are already reaping the benefits-lunch and a nap in the sun, playing, or even studying.
