University of Denver junior men’s golfer Barrett Jarosch has been named the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Golfer of the Month for March.
He is the second DU golfer to receive the honor this season, the first being senior Jimmy Cunningham.
Jarosch received this honor after he won his second career tournament at the Steve Kerr Invitational on March 20 in Phoenix.
He set a new school record for margin of victory with a seven-stroke win.
Jarosch won his second career tournament with rounds of 68-69-68-205.
He finished 8-under par and out of all the golfers in the 54-hole tournament, he was one of only two who finished under par.
Jarosch was the only golfer in the field to shoot all three rounds in the 60s. He led the tournament in par four scoring at 3-under, par five scoring at 7-under, and finished second with two eagles.
Jarosch, an Edmonton, Alberta native, grew up playing hockey until he was 14, when his parents introduced him to golf. He continued to play throughout high school and with offers to play in college from three other schools, chose to attend the DU.
“I think I made a really good choice coming here,” said Jarosch. “I really like the coach, and I am very comfortable with golf and school.”
Jarosch, who is a marketing major, enjoys spending as much time as he can with friends, working out and playing squash. He also loves to eat ribs.
The SBC Golfer of the Month award comes as a huge honor to Jarosch. He said it epitimizes the time and effort he has spent on the sport, he certainly deserves it.
“I think it’s really cool,” said Jarosch. “Me and Jimmy are the first two to ever get that, and I think it is a nice end result to the work I put on my golf game.”
The Steve Kerr Invitational is the final tune-up for the team before the conference championships. The DU men’s golf team will finish their season in the SBC Championships in Niceville, Florida.
