KVDU, the University of Denver’s student radio station, received a $5,000 grant from an alumnus donor last week.
Robert Selin’s $2,500 personal grant was matched by Boeing where he is an executive.
When he attended the school, he was the manager of the first radio station at DU, now 90.1 KCFR Denver.
Station Manager Nicolas Mezger said the money will be used to strengthen KVDU’s presence on campus.
“KVDU will use the money to help build a radio station and will be used to finance projects that will help KVDU grow as a station,” he said. “The money will be used in an effort to eventually help secure an FM signal.”
The student radio station, now in its third year at DU, currently broadcasts exclusively over the Internet. The $5,000 grant could be used for a server to reach a larger audience.
“We have only been around for three years and to get a full serviced FM signal is very expensive,” said Mezger. “KVDU at the moment does not have the resources to make this happen and we are hoping that as we build a stronger fan base with the students then we will be able to reach this goal.”
KVDU’s studio is currently located in the Villiage Commons area in the student media offices.
