Tri Delta tries to strike out cancer:

The women of Tri-Delta participated in the Third Annual Cancer Strike-Out Softball Tournament.

More than $2,000 was raised to benefit children’s cancer research. It was a tough tournament that ended in a sweep with the men of Sigma Chi in first, second and third, but not without the help from the women of Gamma Phi Beta and Delta Zeta.

This year’s event was successful and members said they are looking forward to breaking another record next year.

Gamma Phi Beta recruits full house:

The Gamma Phi Beta sorority has a full house this year, with 28 new members after this year’s recruitment.

Chapter President Amber Kirchenschlager said, “We had a very successful recruitment this year because even though there were so many amazing girls that went through rush, we met quota and even got some quota additions.”

As a way of formally welcoming the new members, the older members planned a pledge retreat in Winter Park in October.

The new members also had their first exchange Friday, Sept. 26, when Gamma Phi and the Sigma Chi fraternity held “Pajama Jammy Jam” at Pub on Pearl Street.

With the school year in full swing, members of Gamma Phi are getting involved around campus.

Broomball and volleyball intramural teams meet weekly and members are currently forming Up ‘Til Dawn teams to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Center.

The women are also planning their own philanthropy, See-Saw-A-Thon, set for spring quarter. Theta Chi raised nearly $5,000 for Campfire USA, an organization that sends girls to camp who otherwise could not afford to go.

“I’m looking forward to initiating great new girls and ushering in new leadership [during January elections] that will take the house in a great new direction,” said Kirchenschlager.
