I’m strictly a punk rock kinda girl. Give me Blink 182, The Offspring, Green Day, MEST even, and I’m in heaven.
But when I listened to Jonny Lang’s new CD, “A Long Time Coming,” I was forced to reconsider my interests. “
A little bit country, a little bit rock&roll” describes the album exactly.
Normally I would be skeptical of someone hailed as the next B.B. King, but let me tell you, the guy can play the guitar.
A couple of the 15 songs were so mushy/whiny and filled with a throaty yet slightly feminine voice it made me want to rip the CD out and run straight for the nearest biker bar, tracks like “Give me up again” and “Get What You Give” truly showcase Lang’s ability to write catchy even if blatant lyrics.
For all you blues fans out there, I promise you will love “A Long Time Coming.” As for all those rockers itching to take a chance on some skillful new tunes, go for it, what’s the worst that can happen?
Even if you don’t like Lang’s voice, you’ll appreciate the constant guitar riffs reminiscent of Aerosmith, just like I did.
