During AUSA’s Tuesday meeting AHUM/SOCS Senator Chris Dirgo officially resigned from his position citing “personal reasons.”

Dirgo had also e-mailed a letter to all Senate members elaborating on reasons for his resignation.

“I have greatly enjoyed the experience and am deeply honored to have been part of such an organization,” Dirgo said.

President Chris Adams is currently working on plans to hold re-elections to fill the open position.

Senators then discussed upcoming events regarding Homecoming. Thursday night there will be a formal sponsored by DUPB and hockey games will be held on Friday and Saturday. Buses will be taking students to Embassy Suites for the formal starting at 8 p.m. from University Circle.

Additionally, a parade will be held Saturday morning along University Boulevard, also sponsored by DUPB. AUSA is currently working on a float to enter in the parade for senators to ride on.

Free tickets to the formal will be available to senators. Freshman Senator Steve Forbes will be hanging up flyers for the Homecoming parade route in J-Mac. Voting for homecoming royalty will begin tomorrow.

Mallory Delany of DUPB came to talk about improving School Spirit. They propose to declare October DU School Spirit Month in which various prizes will be given to people participating in spirit events.

Senior Senator Erik Johnson informed the senators of Torch Night Wednesday night at Penrose. Torch night is a Tradition of passing the ‘torch of knowledge’ to freshmen.

The Senators voted to approve Sigma Iota Rho as a licensed non-fundable fraternity. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote.

Daniels College of Business Senator Benjamin Burke is working with student organization liaisons with SOC (WRITE OUTD) to have them participate in the Pioneer Roundup on October 21. He is also working on having sporting events played on DU-TV’s Channel 8.

SOC Chairman and On-campus Senator Matt Lira said that advertising for DU- TV has begun and that there are four shows lined up. They have gained access to professional production equipment, and are working on transitioning ResLife to DU-TV. They want to find someone to put on a game show on DU-TV.

Kyle Richards and Alex Lindsey, hosts of Happy Hour informed the Senate that the show is going to focus on sports, campus activities and will be educational and fun for students on and off campus.
