Students at DU may have a chance to make a half-court shot at a basketball game and win free tuition for a year.

Doctor Diane Murphy, director of sports marketing for the Ritchie Center, met with AUSA President Chris Adams to discuss events for Pack the House, which will be held Jan. 6 at Magness Arena.

Among the guests at the event will be Dick Vital and it will televised on ESPN.

Free lift tickets will also being given away. Murphy asked that AUSA help promote the event.

Members then discussed proposed plans to expand DU SafeRide and voted to create a committee to work on the expansion. They also voted to make Freshman Senator Steve Forbes the chairman of the committee.

Karen Yasumur and Cassie Dando from the Pioneer Leadership Program came to the meeting to tell the senators that they are working on SafeRide and suggested that the two organizations help each other.

They suggested advertising SafeRide more and handing out pocket-sized route schedules to help make the program easier to find for students.

Forbes said that combining efforts with PLP would be a great step toward the expansion.

“With a little more advertising, SafeRide can become a more effective source for the university,” Forbes said.

Senator Matt Lira informed the senators that DUTV is going well and that he is looking into the possibility of exporting DUTV into DCB and elsewhere around campus.

He also said that there is a possibility that the channel may be digitally exported on the Internet for off-campus students.

A resolution to allow the Student Media Board to become part of the executive committee of AUSA was offered to the senators.

Ana Nedergaard, chair of the board, explained that SMB consists of four board members, three editors-in-chief of the publications and KVDU’s station manager.

SMB receives 8 percent of student activity fees and the funding was separate from the percentage that AUSA receives.

Senator Burke moved to amend the resolution to read that the resolution be sponsored by Senator Johnson. The amended resolution was approved by a unanimous vote. The resolution will be considered at the board’s next meeting tonight.
