A novice rock/jazz band tried out its sound last week and also fulfilled a credit requirement for one of its members.

Electric guitarist Mike Rodholm performed his senior recital to fulfill his requirements for a bachelor of music degree Wednesday night.

He performed with his friend Mike Purcell on keys and mallets, Jim Fierro on drums, and Steve Earnest on bass and guitar.

He called them “The Kings of the Night,” an inside joke with his friends. The real name of the band is Good Ship.

Rodholm performed five songs, four of which had been written for the concert by him or members of the band.

Rodholm describes his music style as, “an eclectic accumulation of rock, jazz and funk.”

The audience of about 30 people responded positively to Rodholm’s music by cheering, whistling and clapping in appreciation.

“I really liked the style of his playing and his stage presence,” said freshman music major, Lesley Tucker.

Rodholm said he felt relieved to have the concert over with, and that he was “pretty pleased” with its outcome.
