The University of Denver Theater Department recently moved into the new Byron Flexible Theater in the Newman Performing Arts Center on University Boulevard.

The new theater will house all main-stage productions.

The offices and space currently being used in the Margery Reed Building will continue to serve logistical purposes and provide storage area.

“It’s a lovely new playground and great performing space for us,” said Tricia Stevens, theater and office manager. “We’re so excited that the program has grown to the point where we can have a new theater.”

This quarter the department will showcase nine senior and faculty projects that are produced and composed by three faculty members and six seniors.

One of the nine productions is a one-woman show called “Blown Sideways Through Life,” written and performed by faculty member Paula Sperry.

Most of the productions feature original scripts and are produced solely by students and faculty members.

Such productions offer students the opportunity to become involved with theater in a variety of ways, including technical production and costume design.

Courses include everything from analysis of dramatic literature to stage makeup.

The Theater Department staff is composed of permanent faculty members including a fluctuating number of adjunct professors.
