Despite Advisor Carl Johnson’s reminder that the Senate elections are coming up, he said current events may set the elections back.

“In the constitution, elections will be the last Tuesday of April,” he said. “We probably will look at the calendar and have a week of campaigning. It’s looking like the first week of May,” he said, suggesting the dates may be updated.

The Senate re-licensed seven student organizations last week. Relicensed organizations were the Alpine Club, the Arab Student Association, the DU environmental Team, the Hawaii Club, HIV/AIDS Awareness Week, and Colorado Asian Pacific Student Alliance.

As these six student organizations look solid, On-Campus Senator Chris Sivavajchaipong suggested the Senate vote on the organizations. The vote passed 15-0-0.

DCB Senator Andrew Petraitis announced that the applications for funding are due Monday. Interview sessions are from April 22 to 24. The Senate will meet April 27 to decide which student organizations to fund.

Senior Senator Laura Szynskie said students would like Driscoll Center to be more student oriented.

Senators formed four committees. The Patio Area Committee, led by Szynskie, hopes to increase seating outside the Village Commons. The Driscoll Committee, led by Sophomore Senator Tyler DeWeese, will work on making Driscoll more student-oriented, including adding chairs and the possibility of changing the Driscoll Center’s name. Sophomore Senator Megan Gonzalez will lead the Hockey and General Improvements Committee, which will work on increasing the student section.

Szynskie said a wooden plaque will be ordered next week, recognizing leadership and commitment among seniors. The Pioneer Circle plaque, approved for $600 last quarter, will be placed on the south wall of the Student Involvement Center entrance. It has 100 plates for 100 nominees.
