Most of you have probably been to the Tree House Cafe sandwich shop on Evans. It is one of the more popular DU-area restaurants. The Tree House Cafe was started by three DU graduates and one Regis graduate.
Atmosphere: The Tree House Cafe has a great atmosphere. It is easy to order and has artsy tree-like tables and columns. There is real art along the walls, too. At times, the restaurant has even featured DU student art (you can contact a Tree House Cafe manager to learn more).
As far as lunch goes, the Tree House Cafe has a pretty classy setup. However, it does get quite busy during lunchtime and the place gets a little messy, but not to worry, the restaurant is open until nine o’clock at night.
Service and Staff: The employees at the Tree House Cafe are super friendly. There are usually three or four people making sandwiches, so your order comes up fast, but you might have to wait in line a little.
The Food: The sandwiches are great. Most of their ingredients are organic and you can tell they are of good quality – and the sandwiches are not that expensive, about five to seven dollars each. Even better, you can use your DU Flex Account there.
One problem was that the sandwiches seemed to be missing something, whether it was a spice or a vegetable, something was just a little out of place. At times the sandwiches were somewhat bland. However, the Tree House Cafe has won three Best Sandwiches in Denver awards.
What I did think was excellent was the Tree House milkshakes. The milkshakes are made with Breyer’s ice cream, real fruit, and Ghirardelli chocolate. In fact all of their drinks seem high quality. Coffees and teas are distributed to the Tree House from the Vail Mountain Company.
What to Order: The Tree House Cafe suggests the Italian, the Eggplant Parmesan, and the California Turkey. These are the most popular sandwiches. I say, whatever you decide to order, get a milkshake with it, too!
Although the sandwiches weren’t my favorites, the staff and atmosphere made up for the Tree House Cafe’s shortcomings.
Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5
