I recently read your story about emergency contraceptives becoming available at the DU Health Clinic. One statement in the article read, “Emergency contraceptives, or more commonly known as RU-486 or ‘the morning after pill,’ are pills a woman takes after having unprotected sex.” This statement is very inaccurate. RU-486 is not the same thing as an emergency contraceptive, as suggested in the above statement. RU-486, as it is called in Europe, is an abortion pill, which is being named Mifeprex for marketing in the United States. If “emergency contraceptives should not be confused with Mifeprex, which is commonly known as the ‘abortion pill,'” this confusion around RU-486 should be cleared up. Thanks.
