The University of Denver and the Denver Traffic Department have decided to put the main parking entrance for the College of Law on East Asbury Avenue.
The visitor’s parking will be at the secondary entrance on East Evans Avenue next to Old Row.
The Asbury entrance will be on the east side of the Alumni House and it faces west.
The visitor’s entrance on Evans will have a right turn in and a right turn out.
This entrance way will be easier to find for visitors than having to go to Asbury. Also, the main entrance will have a card key access so visitors would not even be able to get in that way.
Because Evans is a major artery, the Denver Traffic Department made the recommendation to have the main entrance be on Asbury.
With the right turn in and right turn out access off the Evans entrance, there will not be many added traffic problems on that road.
Felsburg, Holt, and Ullevig, a traffic consultant group of engineers that deal with traffic flows and analysis, met with university architects to illustrate the best way to avoid a traffic crisis.
The engineers did a parking and traffic study for the entire campus. They made the recommendation for the main entrance on Asbury, which was reinforced by the City Traffic Department.
The consultants also thought that there should not be a lot of traffic near the Ricks School, which is on Evans.
Though some feel that these new entrances will cause problems with traffic, most do not see what the issue is.
Sophomore and commuter student Jessica Errett said, “I don’t think it [the lot entrance on Evans] will make a big difference because it is backed up on Evans.”
Since Errett only uses Evans in the morning, when it is not too full of traffic, “the only problem that [I] would see” is the traffic at the light at University and Evans worsening.
