THE VOTES ARE in for the semifinals of Homecoming Royalty. The final voting will take place today, starting at 12:01 a.m. and end tomorrow at 3 p.m. It will be held through the DUPB website: http://www.du.edu/orgs/dupb/
The candidates for Freshman Lord are:
Randal Singer, a member of the Pioneer Leadership Program and an avid intramural broomball player, is interested in football and horseback riding. He is undecided in his major.
Matt Glaros of Dyer, Ind. is a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He plays intramural football in his spare time. He is undecided in his major.
The candidates for Freshman Lady are:
Kelly Pellar, a biology major, and member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, is very interested in the outdoors. She is a member of both the Alpine Club and the Snowboard Club.
Erin Finnegold is a communications major. She is a member of Tri Delta, the Pioneer Leadership Program, the DU Dance team and Hillel, the DU Jewish student group.
The candidates for Sophomore Duke are:
Nick Sauer of Chicago, Ill., a double major, studying history and public affairs. He is a member of Theta Chi, as well as the Pioneer Leadership Program and the AUSA Senate. His outside interests include golf, skiing and politics.
Matt Kazan is from Littleton. He plans to attend law school after college, but for right now, he spends his time golfing, skiing and swimming on the Denver men’s swimming team. He is a Political Science and English Major
Max Goldberg is also in the running, but the Homecoming Committee was unable to give the Clarion any information on him.
The candidates for Sophomore Duchess are:
Paige Homeyer of Oak Brook, Ill. is a journalism major. She is a resident assistant, a member of Tri Delta, a Younglife Leader and a member of the student-run Circle K International. She enjoys “laughing, crying and sweating, but mostly smiling.”
Jess Fox of Oklahoma City, Okla. is a member of Delta Zeta, and also spends time playing volleyball and broomball. She is an international business major and is interested in sailing and skiing.
Stephanie Filo-Jones keeps busy working in the Office of Multicultural Affairs and dancing on the DU dance team. She is working toward a double major in theater and journalism. She said, “I am obsessed with ‘Fight Club.’ Oh, and I love the DU swim team!”
The candidates for Junior Princess are:
Emily Hall, a communications and PR major from Lakewood, is the current president of Gamma Phi Beta. She is also a member of Rho Lambda and spends time volunteering.
Wendy Webster is a business management major. She is from Palisade, and is a member of Tri Delta, a SOAR staff member and is active in the Pioneer Leadership Program. She also works with Pioneer Partners.
Nena Myrick from New Jersey is a psychology major. She spends her time working as the vice president of the Black Student Alliance. She is also a resident assistant, and a volunteer for the Special Olympics. She said, “I hold my spirituality, family and friends very close to me.”
Katie Vilders, a Denver native, is a marketing major. She keeps busy with her responsibilities as the vice president of Delta Zeta and working at Homecoming and the Winter Carnival.
The candidates for Junior Prince are:
Tor Stenbakken of Seattle is a member of Theta Chi. He also sings in the DU men’s chorus, works as a member of the SOAR staff and plays the saxophone. He is a digital media studies major, and is interested in all kinds of sports.
Erik Johnson of New Mexico is a member of Sigma Chi. He is undecided in his major.
Schuyler Sander spends his time volunteering with youth at risk. He is a member of Beta Theta Pi and the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity. His interests include bodybuilding and playing the stock market. He is majoring in business management. He was in last year’s DU theater’s “Stop Kiss,” was part of DU Denver Days and is “good enough, I’m smart enough, and gall darn-it, people like me.”
Charlie Pollock of Parker is a resident assistant of the 5th and 6th floors in Centennial Towers South. He is a member of Theta Chi fraternity and has enjoyed skiing since the age of five. He is interested in business and art.
The candidates for Senior Queen are:
Paige Vittoe of Louisville, Ky., is a member both of Tri Delta and the Pioneer Leadership Program. She is undecided in her major.
Ashley Flynn is the president of Alpha Gamma Delta. She has been a member of the SOAR staff for three years and is a member of OMEGA and the Panhellenic vice president of recruitment. She works as a preschool teacher at Fisher Early Learning Center.
Brooke Pates, a marketing major from Montana, is a member of Delta Gamma. She is also the Panhellenic President, a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and a member of Rho Lambda. In her free time she works as an aerobics instructor. Next year she wants to attend law school.
Jessica Lass is a communications major. She is also a member of Gamma Phi Beta, the Lamont Women’s Chorus, the Pioneer Leadership Program, and the Alpine Club.
The candidates for Senior King are:
Michael Ledger of Lake Orion, Mich., is working on a degree in marketing. He is the current president of Beta Theta Pi, and enjoys skiing, racing sail boats, and hanging out with his family and friends. He hopes to graduate in March and attend law school in the fall. He is interested in real estate in the Denver area.
Marcus Hansen is the president of Sigma Chi. He is on the Club Lacrosse team and was the vice president of the AUSA last year. “Why should I be Homecoming Royalty?” Hansen asks. “I was the Homecoming Prince last year, and I believe the throne is rightfully mine.”
Jake Bakker of Colorado is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He is the current AUSA president. He spends some of his free time doing community service. In his own words: “Not to be forgotten…Jake loves to party!!” He is looking forward to going to law school next year.
The winners of the royalty race will be announced at the semiformal, except for the Homecoming King and Queen. The King and Queen will be presented at the hockey game against the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers on Friday.
