AS A DU alumnus, and as a gay man, I was insulted by the incredible lack of journalist aptitude in the Gay Pride article by Roberto Santos and Megan Sullivan.

Although it may be a moot point, perhaps you should do some basic fact checking before publishing an article. The rainbow flag has 6 colors, as opposed to what your article suggests; “wearing that familiar, seven-color scheme.

But more importantly, I was shocked by the defensive tone. It’s bad enough you had the thought, “Well, my straight-and-narrow friend,” let alone publish it.

On a day celebrating diversity, why turn your back on anyone? You had a wonderful opportunity to educate someone, but instead you felt the need to give a “witty” retort. What a waste.

As a member of the gay community, I am well aware of the fact that we can make no progress without the support of straight allies. So, I only hope the next time you have the opportunity to educate people you jump on it with as much enthusiasm as you have for insulting people.
