More than 30 students held a 24-hour vigil at Evans Chapel last Friday into Saturday.

They prayed for peace at home and globally. Each participant spent an hour or more in prayer before being replaced by another participant. Freshman Jessie Wells, the organizer, spent 10 hours at the vigil.

Those who were participating were mainly from the DU student body. Many who partook were from Campus Crusade for Christ.

The vigil had to move out of Evans Chapel Saturday because of two weddings that were scheduled to occur. It then resumed in the chapel.

Participants prayed for peace. A desire for unity of the student body was also stressed. Students prayed specifically for our nation and its leaders.

Plans for the summer and next autumn were mentioned in the prayers.

The incoming freshman class was prayed for, as well as individual prayer requests that were collected by Campus Crusade for Christ throughout the spring quarter.

“There was an amazing sense of community among the Christians present this weekend and the interest expressed by the students was very encouraging,” Wells said. “It was a sacrifice of time and sleep for all of the participants, but we’ve already seen abundant blessings.”

She hopes to make this an annual event, open to all who desire to pray for our campus, our nation and the world.
