Resolving a problem or fulfilling a need is the reason that inventions come about. So what do you do during a night on the town, when your outfit doesn’t allow for pockets or purses?
You invent something that does.
The Slip On Pocket, designed for the social lady who can’t be bogged down by a bulky purse at a bar or club, was created by two students at the University of Denver.
Lindsey Scholl and Kristin Merkel designed the lacy hidden pocket when they saw their sorority sisters struggle without their much-needed lipstick and credit cards.
“Slip on Pocket gives people the freedom to carry essentials on their person without the hassles of carrying bulky wallets or purses,” Kristin Merkel said. “The Slip on Pocket is a sexy, fun way to carry personal items.”
The accessory safely secures small items, such as lipstick, credit cards and keys in a small pocket that is worn like a garter over pants or under skirts. It comes in two sizes, small/medium and also medium/large, and is sold for $14.99 at their website www.sliponpocket.com.
“The Slip on Pocket is the hands-free wallet for busy people on the go,” Scholl said. “When I’m wearing the pocket, I don’t even realize that I have it on me.”
The young women’s business, Slip on Pocket LLP, has been doing well in its first year. It has already sold many pockets and the entrepreneurs have even spoken with several women’s magazines about the hidden pocket accessory and hope to stir interest.
Meanwhile, the pocket invention is getting local publicity and attention. Merkel said there will be an article about the pocket in the Villager newspaper tomorrow, a newspaper published in the Denver Tech area.
The pocket will also be featured in the Fashion Show Dress for Success on May 22.
“We are having a trunk show on June 6 from 5-8 p.m. at Brandis B. Boutique in Cherry Creek,” Merkel said, “We are going to be featured in the September issue of Woman’s Own magazine.”
