The University of Denver men’s swimming team won its first ever Division I title last Wednesday at the Belmont Olympic Center in Long Beach, Calif.

Denver earned a total of 669 points to win the first Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference Championships since four years ago.

The Pioneers pulled off a lightning bolt finish in the 600-yard freestyle relay and set a school record of 3:04.47, beating the previous record by over one second. Senior Brian Keats and junior Chase Kelly helped Denver in its victory by taking over first and second place in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing at 1:50.43 and 1:51.10.

Denver earned an impressive total of 15 top12 finishers and seven top-fiveplaces. Sophomore John Kolstoe opened the night in the 1,650-yard freestyle taking a respectable third place with a finishing time of 16:05.85. Sophomore teammate Greg Cox came in with a 16:29.51 finish.

Sophomore Greg Dontchos and junior Asaf Schachaf also displayed impressive performances for the Pioneers, finishing third (46.09) and fourth (46.57) in the 100-yard freestyle.

The Pioneers also had several other noteworthy finishers for the night. Senior Zach Robinson earned his second top-10 award of the week, taking ninth place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.75). Junior Robert Converse took home his third top-3 award, finishing third in the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.54), just ahead of freshman Jordan Chittley who came in sixth place (1:55.49).
