Many students on campus mourn the fleeting days of spring while others celebrate the arrival of summer break. KXDU, the University of Denver’s radio and broadcasting club, will display both of these sentiments on Saturday, May 30 at their annual Spring Send-Off.

KXDU, will highlight select DU affiliated bands and student vendors, showcasing their talents and services on Nagel Mainstage. Production manager Leo Murrell said the team is attempting to differentiate this year’s event from the past by promoting a party rock theme.

“Think neon, zebra print, scene bangs and layered tank tops,” Murrell said, offering attendees a fun way to dress for the theme.

KXDU hopes to extend audience engagement beyond the music with a new wave of merchandise. The club is donating all proceeds from stickers and patches to the Second Wind Fund, an organization dedicated to suicide awareness and harm reduction for at risk youth. Second Wind Fund will be present at the event to hand out harm reduction supplies and information on how to properly use their resources.

“Mental health is an ever pressing concern for young people and we want to ensure that our club is also a safe space for people to be informed on proper resources,” said Murrell. Murrell led the merch production team, spending hours designing, screen-printing and promoting entirely handmade products.

This initiative extends KXDU’s hand beyond the borders of campus. Collaborating with outside organizations like Second Wind Fund presents students with resources they might need while enjoying the musical talents of their peers.
