“When life brings trouble…relax, watch me float away, I’m coasting,” was the message Zion I sent to the crowd when the band opened the portal of music and meditation last Friday night.
Concert fiends tried to relax as they were turned down at the box office in the hours leading up to the sold-out show.
Rebelution, SOJA and Zion I are on tour and, once again, they stole the attention of their host city.
Zion I took over the crowd and coasted through the performance prior to SOJA as one of two opening acts for the headlining band Rebelution.
The opening sets awakened eager fans with “Coastin'” that features female artist K. Flay.
Zion I also pulled other songs from its album The Takeover, including “DJ DJ,” “Antenna,” “Juicy Juice,” “Takeover” and “Bringing the Light.”
From Oakland, Calif., producer and deejay Amp Live and emcee Zumbi made up the hip-hop group Zion I.
Amp Live’s diverse taste and innovative creations truthfully build his reputation as a strong and talented deejay.
He has produced for artists like Akon, Flipsyde and Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls.
His beats are featured in movies and on TV shows such as “Honey,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and “America’s Next Top Model.” Recently he worked on the “Rainydayz Remixes” for the rock group Radiohead, and also has remixed for Linkin Park and MGMT.
These are only a few items on the list of his side projects that work to build his talent and reputation, and this goes without mentioning his continuous collaborative effort with Zumbi for the Zion I catalogue.
The lines of poetry within Zumbi’s lyrics and the language of Amp Live’s beats coalesce together to create a product of vibration that matches the intention of the duo: to create a positive vibe that the crowd will thrive on.
In this way, Zion I is created from the power of their music and fans.
Working their way down the West Coast and then east to Colorado for a weekend, Denver and Boulder fans did not miss the opportunity to see Zion I perform as both concerts filled the venues to capacity.
Minneapolis, Minn., is the band’s next destination as it heads to the East Coast.
Zion I’s final show will be in March in their home state of California where the tour began.
