After winning three straight NCAA Skiing titles, the DU Pioneers watched rival ski program from the University of Colorado take home the title for the 2011 season. Although the Pioneers finished fifth overall with 592.0 points, CU’s 831.0 were too much to handle for all other competing teams.
While the Pioneers ski team was unsuccessful in bringing home a fourth national title, 18 DU skiers were successful in the classroom and are being honored on the 2011 NCAA All-Academic Team. A student must receive a GPA higher 3.5 to qualify and DU scholors were the most in the NCAA.
Included in the 18 skiers who are members of the 2011 NCAA All-Academic Team are Senior Seppi Stiegler, Junior Ida Dillingoen, and Freshman Sterling Grant who all won individual events at the 2011 NCAA Championships. These three Pioneers were also named All-Americans along with Sophomore Andrew Dougherty, Junior Lindsay Coen, and Senior Andreas Kilde.
Other DU student athletes who are being honored on the 2011 NCAA All-Academic team include freshman Kitt Flowers, Jessica Jortberg, Trygve Markset, sophomores Makayla Cappel, Mari Elden, Mary Rachel Hostetter, Grant Jampolsky, Kristian Soerlund, Jennie VanWagner, junior Kate Dolan, seniors Lauren Eder, and Georgia Wettlaufer.
