Driscoll Underground saw several changes over the summer, including the addition of an office for the USG president and vice president and a new DUPB office. The project was completed by Sept. 1, just before students arrived for classes.
The project aimed to bring a new look to Driscoll and to create places for students to study while the library is closed, according to John Nichols, director of Driscoll.
“We needed to find additional space where students can go sit down with Penrose being remodeled,” said Nichols.
The school’s efforts have provided a plethora of new places to study, and to suit the needs of any students’ study habits.
“If you’re in the mood for music, we have Jazzman’s; for socializing, there’s Sidelines Pub; for peace and quiet, the Driscoll Underground,” said Sarah Antrim, who normally runs the Penrose coffee cart but has been relocated to Sidelines Pub during the construction. “It’s all out there.”
An awning feature was also added outside of Driscoll and at the South Patio.
Though there is no definite price for the project yet, Nichols said he speculates that it will end at about $130,000 total.
Though many students miss the study places previously provided by the library, the university has utilized its resources to compensate for it. With these changes, Nichols said Sidelines Pub and Driscoll Underground may well be on their way to becoming some new favorite study spots.
