An unpredictable night at the Grammys hatched from an unpredictable Lady Gaga outfit.

An egg? Gaga was born that way. With an avant-garde sense of fashion and a sharp ear for genre-shaping music, she took home three Grammys. She also performed her new, religion-themed single, “Born This Way,” with a newly hatched outfit and an homage to one of music’s most holy: Madonna.

Only one man has shown any true opposition to Gaga’s pop queendom lately. Heard of Cee-Lo Green? No? Then, f**k you.

Cee-Lo’s performance of his retro-soul hit “F**k You,” which also won a Grammy, came from left field. His costume was an all-out glam fest. Think Copacabana meets Rocky Horror.

What was the real surprise, then? The moment Gwyneth Paltrow joined Cee-Lo onstage to help censor the song and turn “F**k You” into the unforgettable “Forget You” performance that it was, which also included Muppets. Glee fans rejoice.

The big winner of the night, however, was the most unexpected: Lady Antebellum. Prediction-favorite Eminem was nominated for 10 awards but only took home two – though he had the tightest rap of 2010 in “Love the Way You Lie.”  Maybe he was snubbed because they know he likes to set roofs on fire. And be pissed off. But that’s what makes Eminem who he is.

Alas, Gaga and Em should do a song together. Call it “Bad Romance, Part II” and have Elton John play piano. Talk about a ready-made Grammy moment everyone has already seen in one form or another. And that’s okay. A little predictability never hurt anybody.
