Open letter to Editor: The stench of misguided political correctness surrounds the Boone issue.
Current students and alumni should take a look at George Mason University. Several years ago, GMU retired their Patriot mascot because he was deemed not to be “inclusive” enough and replaced him with an amorphous green glob called Gunston.
This past year, though, after students and alumni complained long and loud enough, GMU brought back a new Patriot mascot.
Now, if a university like George Mason, which is far and away more ethnically diverse than DU ever was or will be and moreover sits in the nation’s PC nerve center can see the light on this issue, then certainly DU can.
So what can you do? Make the administration hear you loud and clear. Alumni, who may be reading this, hit ‘em where it hurts — the pocketbook. Withhold donations.
Don’t give them a dime until Chancellor Coombe actually listens to the DU community he’s supposed to serve.
Let’s do whatever we can to bring Boone back and show the country that the DU community is ready and willing to stand up to political correctness run amok.

Open letter to Chancellor Coombe: You had the perfect opportunity to help bring DU together with a mascot students and alumni have loved for generations, but you ignored all that for no obvious reason.
The funny thing about you saying Boone is “divisive” is that all we have is your word on that.
The folks I saw on TV and speak to directly have no problem with Boone at all. Where are the victims of Boone?
Respect us enough to produce those who you seem willing to honor above the vast majority and let them make their case as we have.
I suggest you read the comment section of 9NEWS for some real feedback from those not on the payroll.
Princeton can have their Tiger, Yale their Bulldog and Harvard ole John Harvard himself without having to apologize or explain.
If you really have a history, you don’t trash it to fit the current fashion.
Let us consider the bird. From the moment Dan’s [Daniel Ritchie] New York firm cooked it up it was cooked with the public.
For 10 long years we have had a mascot no one understood and even Dan [Ritchie] couldn’t explain.
Dan [Ritchie] just gave us the bird and so did you. You still have the chance to tell the world that after 140 years of continuous operation DU knows who it is by bringing back something the folks like.
None of Dan’s high paid consultants ever found out how to capture emotions at DU like you see here, don’t waste them.
