Renovated from an old ice cream truck, this delivery truck serves something unlike any other musical vehicle in Denver —cupcakes.
The Denver Cupcake Truck provides cupcakes to the public at $2.75 by parking around Denver. The truck may even make an appearance on Asbury Street on the DU campus during finals week.
The truck posts its schedule on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter for followers to stay informed on their location. Owners, Denon and Sean Moore, do their best to update the accounts the night before to announce where they will be the next day, they also supply an ongoing feed of updates throughout each day as the truck changes locations, even asking for suggestions for the next stop.
The Denver Cupcake Truck was created out of Cake Crumbs bakery located at 2216 Kearney St., but the truck itself travels around the city each day carrying a variety of cupcakes and beverages, including milk, Jones Sodas and Coke products.
“Since cupcakes are all the rage right now, we only carry cupcakes on the truck instead of the all the pastries from the bakery,” explained Denon Moore.
The traveling cupcake truck was designed for quick sells on the street much like other vendors in cities around the U.S.
We didn’t want something like a creepy ice cream truck, but there wasn’t nothing like this in Denver, so about a month ago we started the service,” said Denon Moore.
Sean Moore drives the truck with a friendly persona that has been a hit with customers, particularly women, since only 10 to 15 percent of their customers are men.
“He’s quite the character and the ladies love him,” joked his wife, Denon.
While the truck’s cupcake stock ranges anywhere from 300 to 1,000 cupcakes aboard, the weather plays a factor on sales due to groups of people enjoying the nice weather outdoors.
“Right now, we’re selling about 400 cupcakes a day, but with the bad weather we’ve been struggling to sell 300,” explained Denon Moore.
The truck’s signature six flavors of moist cupcakes are baked fresh each morning and delivered throughout the day until its stock has been sold. One of their busiest areas to visit is downtown, especially on nice days where they have been known to sell out within an hour.
Since the Denver Cupcake Truck anticipates a stop on the DU campus during finals week near the hot dog vendor on Asbury Street, if you’re looking for a quick snack between exams, make sure to watch for the truck with a cupcake design on the side for a sweet snack.
